GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s golf team heads to the Linger Longer Invitational for the third straight season this weekend when the Spartans travel to the Great Waters at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga. The three-day, 54-hole event begins Sunday with tee times on the 7,073-yard course. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstatresults.com.
The 15-team field includes 11 top-50 teams and three top-25 programs. Joining the Spartans in the field includes host No. 43 Kennesaw State, No. 56 Alabama, No. 51 Augusta, No. 4 Baylor, No. 77 Charlotte, No. 20 Georgia, Maryland, Mercer, No 37 Michigan, No. 45 Middle Tennessee State, No. 55 Ohio State, No. 67 Troy, No. 8 Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth.
Junior Josh Stockwell (Aberdeen, N.C./Pinecrest) leads the Spartans and ranks sixth in the Southern Conference with a 72.42 stroke average. Stockwell has finished in the top 40 in all seven events this year, including two top-20 showings. Sophomore Bryce Hendrix (Greenville, N.C./D.H. Conley) is second on the team and ninth in the SoCon with a 72.95 stroke average. Hendrix has posted three top-25 finishes, including two in the top 10 at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate and the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate.
Senior Jake McGlone (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin) ranks third on the team and 13th in the SoCon with a 73.53 stroke average. McGlone has tallied two top 10 finishes this year, winning the Tar Heel Invitational and placing 10th at the Bridgestone.
Junior Joseph Cansler (Clemmons, N.C./Surry CC) is fourth on the team and 16th in the conference with a 74.00 stroke average. Cansler’s top finish came at the VCU Shootout, placing 18th overall. Freshman Jonathan Brightwell (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) rounds out the lineup with a 74.21 stroke average, ranking second in the SoCon among all league freshmen.
