GREESNBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team heads to the Grand Canyon State this weekend as the Spartans take part in the Clover Cup hosted by Notre Dame in Mesa, Ariz., at the Longbow Golf Course. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played at 6,184-yards with the Spartans set to open the weekend with tee times Friday from 8:00-8:40 a.m. (MST) from hole No. 10. Joining the Spartans in the 15-team field includes Notre Dame, Arizona State, Cincinnati, FIU, Florida State, Houston, Indiana, IUPUI, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, TCU, UNCG, Vanderbilt.
Junior Lexi Kershaw (Winston-Salem, N.C./Catawba) leads the team into the weekend with a 76.39 stroke average. Kershaw has posted three top 20 finishes on the year, including a sixth-place showing at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic. Freshman Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, N.C./Northern Guilford) is second on the team with a 77.78 stroke average. Dobbins has posted two 14th place showings in the fall at the William & Mary Invitational and the Starmount Forest Fall Classic.
Sophomore Natalia Asensio (Madrid, Spain/Cardenal Spinola) brings a 78.83 stroke average into the Clover Cup. Asensio has finished in the top 25 three times, including a 13th place showing at Starmount. Freshman Louisa Tichy (Germering, Germany/Max-Born Gymnasium) is fourth on the team with a 78.84 stroke average. Tichy recorded two top 20 showings, including a 14th place finish at William & Mary.
Senior Kristin Powers (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) rounds out the lineup with a 79.39 stroke average and had an 11th place finish at Starmount. Senior Emily Kurey (Alpharetta, Ga./Louisville) will be playing as an individual once again this week.
