Women’s Basketball Faces Eastern Kentucky Wednesday Night
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG welcomes Eastern Kentucky (3-9) to Fleming Gymnasium Wednesday, December 28, for the final home non-conference game of the season. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. on the SoCon Digital Network.
UNCG (7-6) is coming off a 59-52 win over Norfolk State a week ago. The Spartans are lead by Nadine Soliman who is averaging a team-best 17.4 points per game this second, the highest scoring average out of all Division I freshman. Te’ja Twitty has contributed 10.2 points and a team-leading 7.5 rebounds per game in all 13 games this season. UNCG has outscored its opponents by 6.5 points per game and is shooting 40.9 percent from the field.
EKU won two of its first four games this season but since has gone 1-7 and is on a three-game losing streak. The Colonels are 0-3 on the road and 1-3 in neutral-site games. Eastern Kentucky is led by a trio of players scoring in double figures. Alexus Cooper paces the squad with 13.3 points per game while Jalen O’Bannon and Shavontae Naylor average 12.6 and 12.2 points per game, respectively. Additionally, O’Bannon and Naylor lead the Colonels with 6.7 and 6.9 rebounds per game. EKU has been outscored by opponents by 5.2 points per game and is shooting 38.5 percent from the field and 33.2 percent from three-point range.
Wednesday night’s meeting is the first between the two programs during the regular season. UNCG is 1-1 against Ohio Valley Conference opponents this season while EKU has not played a Southern Conference opponent during 2016-17.
