Menís Hoops Travels To Nationís Capital To Battle Georgetown On FS1 Thursday

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The UNCG men’s basketball team leaves the state of North Carolina for the first time this season when the Spartans head to the Nation’s Capital to face off against Big East Conference foe Georgetown. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. The game will be aired nationally on FS1 and online via the Fox Sports Go App with Brandon Gaudin and Ron Thompson on the call. Additionally, the game will be radio broadcast on TuneIn and at www.uncgspartans.com/radio with Scott Pryzwansky on the call.

The Spartans are off to the second-best start in NCAA Division I program history and have posted the best non-conference record in program history with a 9-3 record though 12 games. UNCG has won eight out of its last nine games entering Thursday’s contest, including its first road win Monday night at UNC Asheville.

 UNCG is averaging 75.7 points per game while holding opponents to 62.2 points per game. The Spartans’ +13.4 scoring margin ranks first in the Southern Conference. UNCG is shooting 46.8 percent (333-of-711) from the field and 40.5 percent (122-of-301) from 3-point land. The Spartans are holding opponents to 42.3 percent (260-of-614) from the field and 35.1 percent (81-of-231) from distance.

Four different Spartans are averaging double figures and eight players average at least 4.9 points per game. Sophomore guard Francis Alonso (Malaga, Spain/Cushing Academy) leads the team in scoring at 12.6 points per game. Alonso ranks second in the SoCon with 35 made 3-pointers, connecting on 46.7 percent from distance this year. Senior guard Diante Baldwin (Greensboro, N.C./High Point Christian) is second on the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game. Baldwin leads the team with 48 assists and 26 steals while shooting 78.1 percent (25-of-32) from the free throw line.

Junior forward Marvin Smith (Richmond, Va./Fork Union Military Academy) also chips in 11.8 points per game and is third on the team with 4.8 rebounds per game. Smith ranks second on the team with 24 3-pointers, hitting at 35.3 percent from distance. Senior center R.J. White (Frisco, Texas/Frisco) rounds out the Spartans in double figures at 10.8 points per game and ranks second on the team with 5.8 rebounds per game. White is shooting 54.7 percent (52-of-95) from the field.

Redshirt freshman forward James Dickey (Raleigh, N.C./Word of God) leads the team with 6.7 rebound per game off the bench. Dickey leads the team with 34 offensive rebounds in 11 games. Sophomore guard Demetrius Troy (Raleigh, N.C./Word of God) is shooting 42 percent (21-of-50) from 3-point land while freshman Malik Massey (Charlotte, N.C./New Hampton Prep) is shooting 48 percent (12-of-25) from long range.

Georgetown enters Thursday’s game with a 7-4 overall record and has won five straight games. The Hoyas are 4-2 at home this season. Georgetown has picked up wins this year against USC Upstate, Oregon, Howard, Coppin State, Elon, La Salle and most recently on the road at Syracuse. The Hoyas’ four losses have come to Maryland, Arkansas State, Wisconsin and Oklahoma State. Georgetown is averaging 79.4 points per game while allowing 71.3 points per game. The Hoyas are shooting 46.9 percent (277-of-590) from the field and 38.8 percent (76-of-196) from 3-point land. Opponents are shooting 42.4 percent (282-of-665) from the field and 30.8 percent (70-of-227) from distance.

Rodney Pryor leads the team in scoring at 20.5 points per game. Pryor has connected on a team-high 35 3-pointers, hitting at 52.2 percent from deep. He is shooting 57.4 percent (78-of-136) from the field overall. L.J. Leak is second on the team in scoring at 17.0 points per game and leads the team with 37 assists. Leak is shooting 50.4 percent (57-of-113) from the field and ranks second on the team with 14 made 3-pointers. Bradley Hayes leads the team with 6.1 rebounds per game while Jessie Govan is second with 5.2 rebounds per game.
