GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s basketball is set to face Norfolk State (5-5) Wednesday night inside Fleming Gymnasium. It will be the Spartans versus the Spartans for the first time since the Blue & Gold played at USC Upstate last season. The all-time series is tied 2-2 while UNCG (6-6) is looking for its fifth win of the season on Lynne Agee Court. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
UNCG is led by freshman sensation Nadine Soliman who is second in the Southern Conference in scoring with 17.3 points per game. Soliman is also the nation’s freshman leader in scoring average and three-point attempts. Te'ja Twitty, who is second for the Blue & Gold in scoring, is fifth in the league with 7.3 rebounds per game and is shooting a team-best 53.2 percent from the field.
As a unit, the Blue & Gold has the third-best scoring offense and defense in the league entering Wednesday’s game with 65.6 points per game and 59.1 points allowed per game. Additionally, the Spartans have the best rebounding offense in the league with 41.4 rebounds per game.
Norfolk State is led by Kayla Roberts who was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday. She has a team-best 12.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per game nearly averaging a double double. Jordan Strode is second on the team with 12.7 points per game while the team is shooting 34.1 percent from the field and just 25 percent from three-point range.
UNCG and NSU are tied 2-2 in the all-time series. Last time the two met, UNCG defeated Norfolk State 73-66 November 23, 2013.
