Penny Boswell, a former standout of the University of South Carolina, was named assistant coach at UNCG in August 2016. Boswell was a member of the Gamecocks squad from 2010-14 and spent the past two seasons as the Graduate Assistant coach at her Alma Matter.
During her time as a Gamecock student-athlete, Boswell represented USC on a national level competing at NCAA Southeast Regionals, the Armory Track Invitational and at the SEC Championships. She posted the 7th fastest 10,000-meter time in program history (35:53.8) and was a two-year captain. She was presented the Team Leadership Award in 2012 and 2013 and was a three-year member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
As the Graduate Assistant Coach and Track and Field/Director of Operations Intern at South Carolina, Boswell gained a plethora of coaching and administrative experience. She assistant in writing and coordinating distance practices, wrote the 2017 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championship Manual, coordinated official and unofficial recruiting visits and assisted the Director of Operations with coordinating team travel.
Boswell received a B.S. in Exercise Science with an emphasis on Heath Fitness in 2014 and recently completed her Masters Degree in Sports and Entertainment Management in May. Both of which were earned at South Carolina.
