Andre Morgan is in his second season as an assistant coach on Wes Miller's staff in 2017-18. Morgan helped the Spartans to a program-record 25-10 overall record and a 14-4 mark in Southern Conference play last season, his first year in Greensboro.
Morgan helped the Spartans win their third Southern Conference regular season championship and the program's first-ever No. 1 seed in the SoCon Tournament. He guided the Spartans to their fifth postseason appearance in program history as UNCG earned the SoCon's automatic bid into the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
Morgan coached senior guard Diante Baldwin to an All-SoCon selection last year as Baldwin turned in the top season of his career. Baldwin averaged a career-best 13.5 points per game while dishing out 149 assists. Sophomore guard Francis Alonso also earned All-SoCon accolades after leading the team in scoring with 14.9 points per game. Alonso set the UNCG single-season record with 102 career made 3-pointers.
Morgan joined the Spartans after spending 2015-16 as associate head coach at Kentucky Wesleyan under coach Happy Osborne. He helped the Panthers posted a 27-4 record and advance to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional as the champions of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Prior to Kentucky Wesleyan, Morgan spent one season as an assistant coach in the Southern Conference on Chuck Driesell's staff at The Citadel in 2014-15.
Prior to The Citadel, Morgan spent two seasons on staff at UAB for head coach Jerod Haase. He spent the 2013-14 season as associate director of basketball operations and the 2012-13 season as an administrative assistant. He began his collegiate coaching career at Young Harris College for two seasons (2010-12), helping the Division II squad to a 22-win season in 2011-12, a 17-game improvement.
Morgan, a native of Buford, Ga., played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Kennesaw State, where he received the 2006 Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Year honor. He transferred for his final two years to North Georgia and earned All-Peach Belt Conference honors his last two years. He finished his collegiate career with 1,337 points, 524 rebounds, 210 steals, 193 assists and 153 3-poijters in 116 career games at both Kennesaw State and North Georgia.
At Buford High School, Morgan earned 2005 McDonald's All-America honorable mention recognition and was named to the AA All-State by the Georgia Sports Writers Association as a senior. He averaged 20.3 points and 10.1 rebounds, leading the Wolves to the state semifinals and a 23-8 record. He left Buford as the all-time leading scorer with 1,503 points and was a three-time All-Region VIII selection.
Morgan graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration from North Georgia in 2010. Morgan is married to the former Lynn Newson and they live in Greensboro.
