GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s tennis team under head coach Jeff Trivette has announced its 2014-15 schedule that includes three matches against NCAA Tournament participants.

“We have a very competitive schedule this year,” Trivette said. “I like the variety of our opponents on this years calendar. We have at least three teams that won their conference championships and participated in the NCAA Tournament. We will have our new conference rivals in Mercer and ETSU and we are renewing some old rivalries in CofC, Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina. We will have to work hard to be successful, but we welcome the challenge.”

The Spartans were 8-13 last season with a 5-4 conference record earning a No. 5 seed in the Southern Conference tournament falling to the eventual champion Elon 4-0 in the first round.

UNCG returns five starters from last season, including All-Freshman team honoree Yasmin Franco (Largo, Fla./Indian Rocks Christian). The other starters are seniors Kayla Gammie (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Broward Virtual School), Stephanie Falcon (Marietta, Ga./Walton), juniors Soumeya Anane (Coventry, Great Britain/Tile Hill Wood School) and Jamie Grinberg (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill).

The Blue and Gold will play in five fall tournaments starting with the Elon Fall Invitational Sept. 12-14. The Spartans will take part in the Wake Forest Fall Invitational Oct. 3-5 and will travel to the Georgia State Fall Invitational the following week Oct. 10-12.

Four days later, UNCG will head to the Carolina ITA Regional held in Chapel Hill, N.C. Oct. 16-20. The Spartans will end the fall campaign by participating in the Charlotte Fall Invitational Oct. 31 through Nov. 2.

UNCG will open the spring season with a home match against Big South member Coastal Carolina Jan. 25 at noon at the UNCG Tennis Courts. The Spartans head out for a four-match road trip starting with Wake Forest Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. in Winston-Salem, N.C.

After a week off, the Blue and Gold will face East Carolina on the road Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. in Greenville, N.C. and face USC Upstate two days later Feb. 14 in Spartanburg, S.C. at 1 p.m. The Spartans finish the road trip with a match against UNCW Feb. 20 at 1:30 p.m. in Wilmington, N.C. The Seahawks made the NCAA Tournament last season falling to Clemson 4-0 in the first round.

UNCG returns home for a doubleheader Feb. 28 against Division II member West Virginia State and cross-town foe North Carolina A&T. The Spartans head back on the road to face Winthrop March 1 in Rock Hill, S.C. and will face Elon March 4 in Elon, N.C. The Phoenix won the SoCon Championship last season but has joined the CAA conference this year. Two days later, the Blue and Gold will host Richmond March 6 at 1 p.m. at the UNCG Tennis Courts.

SoCon action will start with a road match against Chattanooga March 8 at 1 p.m. in Chattanooga, Tenn. Two more non-conference road matches at Charleston Southern (March 12) and College of Charleston (March 14) ends the three-match road stand.

The Spartans will host Wofford March 21 in the first home conference match at noon at the UNCG Tennis Courts. UNCG will then face Western Carolina (March 22) and returning SoCon member ETSU (March 27) on the road. The Blue and Gold return home to host Appalachian State in a non-conference match March 28 at noon after the Mountaineers joined the Sun Belt Conference this season.

Three Days later, UNCG will face Charlotte on the road March 31 at 2:30 p.m. and returns home to face Davidson April 1 in its final non-conference match at 2 p.m.

The Spartans host new SoCon member Mercer April 9 at 2 p.m. and take on Samford April 11 at noon at the UNCG Tennis Courts. UNCG finishes the regular season with a road match at Furman April 18 at 1 p.m.

The 2015 SoCon Tournament will take place Friday, April 24 through Sunday, April 26. The championships will be held in Greenville, S.C. hosted by Furman University.
