GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s tennis team picked up its fourth commitment for the upcoming 2014-15 season as Connor Thompson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents’) signed a Grant-In-Aid, head coach Thomas Mozur announced Friday.

“We are very lucky to get a fourth commitment for this fall,” said Mozur.  “We think that Connor Thompson can come in and make an immediate impact.  The coaching staff is very excited to start working with Connor.  He has a tremendous upside.”

Thompson comes to UNCG after a fantastic high school career going 62-1 that included 38 wins in a row at Holy Innocents’ private school in Atlanta, Georgia. His only defeat came as a sophomore two years ago at the LaGrange Invitational where he lost a third set tiebreaker 7-6. Thompson helped Holy Innocents reach the second round of the Class A private school state boys’ tennis playoffs last season.

The Atlanta, Georgia native was ranked as high as No. 2 in the country as a seventh grader (2008) coming in behind Noah Rubin, who recently won the junior Wimbledon title and committed to Wake Forest.  After taking a couple years off from competitive tennis tournaments, Thompson concentrated on high school tennis playing the number one singles position since 2011 that ended with a perfect 16-0 record his senior season.

The Spartans are coming off back-to-back 14 win seasons, including a semifinal appearance in the Southern Conference tournament this past year dropping a tough 4-3 match to second-seeded Furman. UNCG also went undefeated at the UNCG tennis courts for the second year in a row.
