Dixon & Ehlert Named All-America Scholars By GCAA
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG junior golfers Roy Dixon (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury) and Alex Ehlert (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive) have been named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar for Division I by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Dixon and Ehlert are two of just 207 Division I student-athletes to be represented on the All-America Scholar team this season.
Dixon owns a 3.97 GPA as a finance major and is coming off his best season of his collegiate career in 2013-14. He was named to All-Southern Conference team for his play on the course while also garnering Academic All-SoCon honors and SoCon Honor Roll distinctions. Additionally, he was named First Team Academic All-District and was eligible for Academic All-America honors by CoSIDA this season. Dixon finished second on the team and fifth in the league with a 72.65 stroke average. He posted seven top 25 results and three in the top five, including a third-place showing at the SoCon Championships.
Ehlert picked up the honors after posting a 3.75 GPA in kinesiology. He was named to the SoCon All-Academic Team and earned SoCon Honor Roll distinction as well. He posted a 75.09 stroke average on the year, including two rounds of 69 shot at the USF Invitational helping the Spartans set program-records for team round and tournament scores.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
