Chancellor Linda Brady Named Chairperson For SoCon Council of Presidents
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG Chancellor Linda Brady was elected the chairperson of the Council of Presidents for the Southern Conference at the annual SoCon spring meetings last week in Hilton Head, S.C. Brady will serve as the chairperson for the 2014-15 academic year.
The council comprises university chancellors and presidents for SoCon-member institutions located in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. The council oversees strategic planning, conference membership, governance, and athletic and academic achievement for the conference.
Dr. Linda P. Brady became the 10th chancellor of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro on August 1, 2008.
At UNCG Brady has led efforts to establish a mixed-use village designed to recapture the residential character of the university, completed an academic restructuring and program review process designed to guide future directions and investment, and positioned intercollegiate athletics as an important element of the student experience.
Under her leadership UNCG has won numerous awards and recognition, including designation by Forbes as a "Best Buy," inclusion among Princeton Review's Best 377 Colleges and recognition by the 2012 G.I. Jobs List as a "military friendly" school. The university is also lauded for its contribution to the public good, which includes being named by the Education Trust as one of only a few U.S. colleges and universities serving low-income students well.
In addition, UNCG is on the short list of American universities that have closed the gap between graduation rates for black and white students. Add to these that UNCG is repeatedly recognized as one of the nation's most affordable public universities.
Brady is a member of the Board of Directors of the Greensboro Partnership, a founding member of Opportunity Greensboro (a collegiate-business partnership), and a member of the Greensboro Rotary. She chaired the 2011 Campaign for the United Way of Greater Greensboro.
