GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG softball team raised awareness through season-long donations to help in the fight against Congenital Heart Defects.

The UNCG softball team raised a final total of $1,556.75 that will be split between Children's Heart Foundation (CHD  research) and the Lil' Heart Sluggers (support families with CHD).

Here are some important statistics about CHD. CHD is the #1 birth defect world wide.  Approx. 1 out of every 120 babies are born with a heart defect. Thousands of children will not reach their first birthday and thousands more will die before they reach adulthood.  There are up to 1.3 million Americans alive today that have some form of congenital heart defect in the United States.  There is still much research to be done to find the causes of congenital heart disease, but scientists and physicians are making progress.

The student-athletes have taken a strong interest in the platform after learning head coach Janelle Breneman’s story on her six-year old nephew, Bronson who suffers from CHD.  To learn more about Bronson’s story check out this informative but personal video by Greta Hurst (Bronson's Mom & coach Breneman's sister) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ma8wrSAekE

From Bronson and his family, a huge thank you to all the supporters to help improve the lives of so many precious children affected by this lifelong disease.
