Women’s Golf Finishes Round Two At Bryan National Collegiate 03-29-2014

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team continued the annual Bryan National Collegiate Saturday at the Bryan Park Champions Course, co-hosted by the Spartans and Wake Forest. The third and final round is slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on the Triad course.

Junior Berglind Bjornsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Menntaskolinn I Reykjavik) tallied the Spartans’ low score on the day with an 8-over par 80 in wet conditions. Bjornsdottir sits in a tie for 85th overall with a 159 (79-80). Sophomore Sammie Buchanan (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) is the highest ranked Spartan after 36 holes, sitting in a tie for 70th overall with a 156 (74-82). Freshman Kristin Powers (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) withdrew from the second round due to an injury so UNCG was down to just four golfers, meaning all four scores had to count on the team total.

The Spartans as a team are in 18th place with a 663 score through 36 holes after recording a 325 in round one and a 338 in round two. No. 3 Duke leads the event with a 6-over par 582 while Florida State is second just six shots back at 588. Sierra Sims of Wake Forest holds the individual lead with a 2-under par 142 (71-71), while four other golfers are one shot behind at 143.
