GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s and women’s indoor track and field team took part in the UCS Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem Saturday as the event was shortened to just one day due to weather. The weather also kept UNCG from sending runners to the Iowa State Classic this weekend.
The Spartans top event at the shortened meet was the mile run in both the men’s and women’s field. Junior Dylan Belles (Denver, N.C./East Lincoln) was the top finisher, placing 15th overall with a time 4:21.14. Junior Brandon Cain (Graham, N.C./Coker College) placed 28th in the race with a time of 4:27.23 while senior Tyron Alston (Mebane, N.C./Eastern Alamance) was 29th with a time of 4:27.44
The Spartans placed four runners in the top 35 of the women’s mile race the at JDL Fast Track. Senior Shannon Hall (Waldorf, Md./North Point) was the top finisher, placing 22nd with a time of 5:09.31. Sophomore Katherine Link (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) finished 25th with a time of 5:09.98 while senior Kelly Montague (Garner, N.C./West Johnston) was 27th with a time of 5:11.37. Sophomore Katlyn Ayers (Strasburg, Va./Strasburg) rounded out the Spartans with a 31st place finish at 5:12.06.
The UNCG indoor track season continues next weekend with the Kent Taylor Invitational Feb. 21 and the Dennis Craddock Invitational Feb. 22 at North Carolina.
