GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team concluded round one of the Lady Paladin Invitational Friday at the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville. Round two Saturday will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring will be available via www.golfstat.com and www.uncgspartans.com.
Sophomores Sammie Buchanan (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) and Lily Crane (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale) led the way for the Spartans as they fired 6-over 78 scores in the first of the three-round, 54-hole event. Buchanan was only 1-over through the first 13 holes before finishing with a 78 while Crane was just 1-over through 11 holes before dropping a few strokes down the stretch.
George Regents Augusta leads the field with a 3-under par 285 while Clemson is second at 2-under par 286 and Furman is third at 2-over par 290. Ashlan Ramsey of Clemson and Eunice Yi of George Regents are tied for the individual lead with a 4-under 68.
The 2013 Lady Paladin Invitational includes Clemson, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Florida State, Furman, George Regents, Georgia State, Houston, Kennessaw State, Nova Southeastern, Samford, Southern Miss, Texas A&M, UNC Wilmington, Wisconsin and Wofford.
The young Spartans will send one junior, two sophomores and two freshmen to Furman in the five-member lineup. Junior Berglind Bjornsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Menntaskolinn I Reykjavik) posted an 83 in round one while freshmen Kristin Powers (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) and Maddie MacClurg (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) rounded out the UNCG lineup.
