GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG senior defender Cat Barnekow (Santa Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa) and senior midfielder Karin Sendel (Kiryat Tivon, Israel/Ort Kiryat Bialik) earned spots on the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association's University Division All-State Women's Soccer Team, the organization announced Wednesday.

Barnekow, a first team selection, also made the squad in 2010 as a midfielder after helping the Spartans claim the 2012 SoCon regular season title. She was named first team all-conference, served as a team captain and started every match but one making 19 straight starts. Barnekow assisted on the game-winning goal against then No. 7 Wake Forest and tied her career high with five points against UNC Asheville, scoring two goals and dishing out an assist.

Also she played terrific on defense leading UNCG to a streak of six-straight shutouts in conference play including a shutout win against Elon to clinch the SoCon regular season title. Barnekow was part of the defensive unit that only allowed four goals in its last 10 games. She finished with four goals, a team-leading five assists and 13 points. Barnekow ended her career tied for fifth all-time in school history with 23 career assists.

Sendel is a two-time honoree after being selected in 2011. Sendel made the second team after another solid season as a holding midfielder for UNCG. She finished one of nine Spartans to start all 20 games during her senior campaign and served as a team captain. Sendel also was a second team All-Conference selection for the second-straight season.

During her two-year career at UNCG, Sendel became one of the most reliable players missing one game in her entire career. She finished the season with one goal, four assists and six points on 13 shots.

With two players on the NCCSIA teams, UNCG ran its streak to seven straight years with multiple selections.

Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from North Carolina's NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and Independent institutions for the purpose of promoting college athletics in the state.
