RALEIGH, N.C. – UNCG men's golf alumnus Andy Bare is tied for fourth after the first round of the Rex Hospital Open, a Nationwide Tour event being played at TPC Wakefield Plantation.

Bare fired a 5-under 66 in Thursday's first round to sit in a five-way tie for fourth, one shot back of leaders Matthew Richardson, Kyle Reifers and Justin Peters, who each shot 65.

Bare turned in six birdies and had just one bogey Thursday.

The West End, N.C., native was a two-time All-Southern Conference selection for the Spartans, taking the honor in 2002-03 and 2003-04, his only two years at UNCG. He was a two-time medalist in his collegiate career, taking titles at the Birkdale Collegiate Classic and the Bradford Creek Intercollegiate, both in his senior season.

Bare returns to action Friday with a 1:45 p.m. tee time. The event runs through Sunday.
