Hoadley wins match play opener at Public Links Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG's Robert Hoadley (Southern Pines, N.C.) defeated Jed Dirksen 5 & 3 in the opening round of match play at the 86th Annual Public Links Championship, Wednesday at Bandon Dunes Golf Course in Bandon, Ore.

The win advances Hoadley to the round of 32 where he will face Kevin Lee of Cerritos, Calif., 11 a.m. EDT on Thursday. Lee defeated Devon Purser 3 & 1.

Hoadley, who advanced to match play after finishing in the top 64 during stroke play, never trailed during his match. The rising junior established an early lead by winning two of the first three holes. Dirksen squared the match after winning No. 7 but Hoadley regained control by taking three of the next four holes.

After Dirksen cut his deficit to two holes through 12, Hoadley secured the victory by winning each of the next three holes to take an easy victory.
