UNCG announces men’s golf fall slate
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's golf program will play in five fall tournaments in 2011, including hosting the annual Bridgestone Intercollegiate, Spartan coach Terrance Stewart announced on Thursday afternoon.
UNCG will kick off the fall slate in Ann Arbor, Mich. as the Spartans will play in the tough Wolverine Collegiate on Sept. 12-13 at the University of Michigan Golf Course.
The Spartans will travel a little closer two weeks later as they head to the VCU Shootout in Richmond Va. at the Hermitage Country Club. Last season, UNCG finished in fifth place at the event.
On Oct. 3-4, UNCG will travel to Raleigh, N.C. to compete in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate for the first time on the Lonnie Poole Golf Course before playing in the AutoTrader Collegiate in Duluth, Ga. at Berkeley Hills Country Club.
The Spartans will wrap up the fall schedule by hosting its own tournament, the annual Bridgestone Golf Collegiate. The tournament will run from Oct. 29-30 at Forest Oaks Country Club.
"Generally speaking, it's a very, very strong schedule again," Stewart said. "Our opening weekend will almost be a regional preview as some of the top teams from around the nation will be at Michigan. We also have the opportunity to play eight players at the VCU Shootout so that will give some of our players a chance to get in a lot of rounds and we look forward to playing near home at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate the following week.
"As always, we are looking forward to hosting our own home event at Forest Oaks. We have another outstanding field this season and I expect the guys to have a great fall."
