Bare makes cut at Rex Hospital Open, sits 7 out of first
RALEIGH, N.C. – Former UNCG men's golfer Andy Bare slipped into a tie for 36th but made the cut after two rounds at the Rex Hospital Open, a Nationwide Tour event being played at TPC Wakefield Plantation.
After sitting fourth with an opening-round 66 Thursday, Bare turned in a 2-over 73 on Friday. His two-day total of 139 is 3-under and puts him seven shots off leader Scott Brown's pace.
Bare was 1-over through his first eight holes Friday before three straight bogeys put him at 4-over for the day. Bare rebounded with birdies on holes 13 and 15 to get back to 2-over.
Bare was a two-time All-Southern Conference selection for the Spartans, taking the honor in 2002-03 and 2003-04, his only two years at UNCG. He was a two-time medalist in his collegiate career, taking titles at the Birkdale Collegiate Classic and the Bradford Creek Intercollegiate, both in his senior season.
Bare returns to action Saturday with a 9:42 a.m. tee time. The event runs through Sunday.
