GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG second-year women's basketball coach Wendy Palmer announced the signing of high school standout Medena Bartley (Savannah, Ga./Beach) to a National Letter of Intent, Wednesday afternoon. Bartley will join the team for the 2012-13 season along with fellow incoming freshmen Sarafina Arthur-Williams, Diamond Cooper, Ebona Goins, Lucy Mason, Jazmine Missouri and Ciara Morris in this year's recruiting class.
"Medena is an undersized post player from Savannah, Georgia," Palmer said. "She plays hard and has a big presence in the lane. She is a relentless rebounder and enjoys the physical nature of the game. Medena wants to come and be a part of building a successful program. We are excited to have her join our team."
A 6-1 forward, Bartley was a four-year starter for the Beach (Ga.) High School Bulldogs for head coach Ronald Booker. She averaged 8.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game as a senior, helping Beach to a 26-2 overall record and Region 3-AAAAA regular-season and tournament titles.
Bartley, a two-year team captain for the Bulldogs, played in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System All-Star Game after her senior season, scoring a team-best 10 points for Chatham. A two-sport athlete, Bartley was also a member of Beach's track and field team, competing in the throws.
