UNCG 10th, Seyrek 17th in latest ITA Carolina Region rankings

SKILLMAN, N.J. – UNCG is ranked 10th and rising senior Orcun Seyrek is ranked 17th in singles in the latest Carolina Region rankings, released Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The Spartans went 15-6 as a team in 2011, turning in an 8-2 mark in the Southern Conference. UNCG went 9-1 at home on the season and finished third in the league standings. Three Spartans earned All-Southern Conference honors, with Seyrek and Timion Meijs earning first-team honors and freshman Ahmet Sarioglu earning a spot on the second team. Sarioglu and classmate Chanon Varapongsittikul were named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team.

A three-time first-team All-SoCon selection, Seyrek went 20-11 in singles in 2010-11, including a 12-9 mark in dual play at No. 1 and a 6-4 record in SoCon play. In doubles play, the Istanbul, Turkey, native went a combined 12-15 overall and 8-13 in dual action, all at No. 1. He was 6-4 in conference play. Seyrek earned first-team all-league honors in both singles and doubles, claiming the honor along with Meijs in doubles.

Seyrek was the SoCon's Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in 2008-09.

He is the only ranked SoCon player in the region in singles.
