PUERTO RICO – UNC Greensboro men’s golf moved up one spot in the second round of the Puerto Rico Classic taking place at the River Course of the Rio Mar Country Club, as the Spartans (295-292) are currently 11-over through 36 holes.

UNCG is ahead of two teams ranked in the top 40 for Golfstat: No. 5 Alabama and No. 40 Iowa.

The third and final round will begin tomorrow morning as the Spartans will tee at 7:30 a.m. between holes 10 and 16. Live stats will be available via Golfstat.com

Sophomore Nick Lyerly (71-74) and senior Bryce Hendrix (75-70) currently lead the Spartans in team play as they are tied for 14th place going into the final 18 holes.

Lyerly in the second round carded a three-over 74, as he recorded two birdies and two bogeys. Hendrix, meanwhile, was two-under in the second round. On the day, the senior tallied six birdies.

Junior Jonathan Brightwell (73-73) also remained in the top 30 on Monday, as he was once again one-over for the round. In total Brightwell recorded a team-high seven birdies but also totaled six bogeys and one double-bogey.

Junior Grant Powell (76-75) improved by one stroke in the second round with a three-over 75. Rounding out team play for the Spartans is sophomore Zack Swanson, who is in 74th place.

Senior Mark Johnston (80-79) moved up to 10th place among the individuals in this week’s tournament. Johnson, along with the rest of the individuals, is playing on the Ocean Course at Rio Mar Country Club.
