PALM CITY, Fla. – After 18 holes of play at the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate at Ospey Creek, UNC Greensboro men’s golf is in second place after shooting a five-over 293. The Spartans trail only Mercer through the first day of action, as the Bears shot a four-under 284.

The second round will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning. Live stats will be available through Golfstat.com.

Sophomore Nick Lyerly currently sits in second place as he carded a four-under 68. Lyerly was three-under on the front-nine, recording birdies at three different holes including Nos. 2 and 3.

Junior Jonathan Brightwell, meanwhile, is tied for 19th after finishing the day’s play at two-over 74. He birdied the first hole on the morning. It was one of three birdies for Brightwell to go against three bogies and one double-bogey.

As for sophomore Zack Swanson, he began the tournament collecting a three-over 75 in the first round. He shot a one-under 35 on the front-nine.

Senior Bryce Hendrix and junior Grant Powell rounded out team play as both were four-over 76 for the first round. 

In individual play, senior Mark Johnston is currently in 15th place after wrapping up the first day’s action at one-over 73. His 73 was the third-lowest score among individual participants. Additionally, sophomore Justin Emmons finished the day tied for 80th place at 11-over.
