WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – UNC Greensboro women’s basketball (6-7) fell to Seton Hall (8-3) 71-64 at the West Palm Beach Invitational Friday to snap a two-game winning streak.
Junior forward Te’ja Twitty recorded a double-double with a game-high 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while shooting 7-for-9 from the floor. Sophomore forward Amesha Miller and junior guard Nadine Soliman each recorded 10 points, while Soliman recorded eight rebounds and two assists and Miller shot 3-for-4 from the floor.
Seton Hall began the game with a three-point to take a 3-0 lead with 9:53 remaining in the opening quarter, but the Spartans scored 10 of the next 11 points to take a six-point lead, 10-4, with 5:00 left. The Pirates scored nine of the next 13 points to cut the lead to a point, 14-13, with 1:54 left, but UNCG scored the final four points to take a five-point lead, 18-13, after the first quarter.
The Pirates scored 11 of the first 18 points of the second quarter to cut the lead to a point, 25-24, with 3:46 remaining in the quarter, but UNCG scored nine of the final 13 points to take a six-point lead, 34-28, at the half.
The Spartans scored the first five points of the third quarter to increase the lead to 11 points, 39-28, with 8:49 remaining in the quarter, but Seton Hall scored the 11 of the next 13 points to cut the lead to two points, 41-39, with 6:08 left. UNCG scored seven of the next nine points to increase the lead to five points, 46-41, with 4:23 left, but the Pirates scored five of the next seven points to cut the lead to two points, 48-46, with 3:29 left.
UNCG scored seven of the next nine points to increase the lead to seven points, 55-48, with 1:27 remaining in the third quarter, but the Pirates scored four of the final five points to cut the lead to four points, 56-52, after the third quarter.
Seton Hall scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to take a one-point lead, 57-56, with 8:29 remaining in the quarter, but the Spartans scored the next four points to take a three-point lead, 60-57, with 6:40 left. After a Pirate three-pointer to tie the game at 60 with 5:45 left, a Crudup layup gave the Spartans a two-point lead, 62-60, with 4:54 remaining in the game.
The Pirates scored the next nine points to take a seven-point lead, 69-62, with 2:43 remaining in the game, but a Twitty layup cut the lead to five points, 69-64, with 1:44 left. A Pirate layup with 58 seconds left gave Seton Hall the seven-point win.
The Spartans take a week off before hosting Coastal Carolina Saturday, Dec. 29 in Fleming Gymnasium. UNCG looks to extend its six-home game winning streak.
