GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro men’s basketball senior guard Francis Alonso and junior forward James Dickey have been named to the watch list for the Lou Henson Award, presented annually to the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball.

The 2019 Lou Henson Award will be presented at the College Insider Awards in April in Minneapolis, the site of the men’s Division I National Championship.

For his career to date, Alonso has appeared in 111 games for the Spartans with 102 starts, averaging 14.8 points along with 2.3 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game. He’s also made 319 career three pointers and is currently second in program history in points scored (1,647). Additionally, he’s collected 85 career steals.

Earlier this season, the Malaga, Spain, native set the new program record for made three points, surpassing UNCG Hall of Famer Scott Hartzell who held the record for 22 years with 309 threes. Also, Alonso is just one of six players in Southern Conference history to make at least 300 three pointers.

Through seven games this season, Alonso is averaging a team-high 19.6 points per game. His career-high for points per game was set during his junior season at 15.6.

As for Dickey, he has appeared in 74 games with 50 starts, averaging 7.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Last season, the Raleigh, N.C., native was named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Year.

Dickey this season is averaging 8.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game along with 15 blocks. In a season-opening victory over North Carolina A&T, Dickey blocked seven shots, tied for the second-most in a single game by a Spartans player.
