GREENSBORO, N.C. – Juniors Nadine Soliman and Te’ja Twitty both had a career-day as the UNC Greensboro women’s basketball (1-1) won the home opener with a 92-23 victory over Pfeiffer (1-1) Sunday in Fleming Gymnasium.

Soliman set career highs with 36 points and eight steals and added nine rebounds, while Twitty tied career highs with 20 points and 14 rebounds for her first double-double this season.  Soliman’s 36 points, 14 made field goals and eight steals ranked third in school history for a single game in each category.  

The Spartans gave up less than 10 points in each of the four quarters and only gave up six points in the second half.  UNCG’s margin of victory was 69, which was the largest margin of victory in the Division I era and the sixth most in school history, while the 64 rebounds in the second most in school history and the most in the Division I era.  The 23 points given up is the fourth least amount in school history and the lowest in the Division I era.

“I’m really proud of the execution,” head coach Trina Patterson said.  “The fact that we allowed single digits in all four quarters from the entire team is very good.”

Two other Spartans recorded double-digits in scoring with sophomore Aja Boyd’s 11 points and junior Alexis Pitchford’s 10 points.  Boyd added seven rebounds and three steals, while Pitchford added four assists.

The Spartans started hot scoring the first eight points of the game for an 8-0 lead, with 7:45 remaining in the first quarter, but Pfeiffer scored four of the next seven points to cut the lead to seven points, 11-4, with 5:45 left in the quarter.  UNCG scored nine of the final 13 points to take a first quarter of 12 points 20-8. 

UNCG scored the first six points of the second quarter to increase the lead to 18 points, 26-8, with 7:52 remaining in the quarter, but a Pfeiffer three-pointer cut the lead to 15 points, 26-11, with 7:26 left in the first half.  The Spartans scored 17 of the final 23 points to take a halftime lead of 26 points, 43-17.

Pfeiffer start the third quarter with a jumper to cut the lead to 24 points, 43-19, with 9:50 remaining in the quarter, but the Spartans scored the final 25 points to take a third-quarter lead of 49 points, 68-19.

UNCG outscored Pfeiffer 24-4 in the final quarter to take home the 69-point win.

The Spartans recorded 22 steals and created 42 Pfeiffer turnovers, while making 32 field goals and holding the Falcons with 10 made field goals. 

The Spartans take a trip to Boone, N.C., to face Appalachian State Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
