GREENSBORO, N.C.- Through the first two rounds of the Pinehurst Challenge taking place at Pinehurst Resort’s No. 6 course, UNC Greensboro’s women’s golf team currently sits in ninth place after shooting a 603 (303-300) on Monday.

The third and final round will take place tomorrow morning and live stats will be available on GolfStat.com.

Sophomore Tara Bettle (76-71) recorded one birdie (hole No. 11) in the first round against four bogies and one double-bogey to finish the first 18 holes at four-over. In the second round, however, the Berlin, Germany native shot a one-under 71, as she birdied three holes on the front nine along with hole No. 13. She is currently tied for 12th place.

“Tara had another solid start to the tournament,” said head coach Janell Howland. “Proud of her comeback this afternoon. As a team, we need to do the little things better in order to get our scores where we know they can be.

We have another opportunity to go out tomorrow and see what we can do.”

“I had a solid day today,” Bettle added. “After a 76 the first round I was able to really get into my game and make some more birdies, which helped me to shoot 71. I am excited to play tomorrow and hope we can get back to our usual performance and move up the leaderboard.”

Sophomore Keri Kenkel (74-78) led the Spartans in the first round, as she shot a two-over 74. Kenkel birdied three consecutive holes (Nos. 5-7) on the front nine. In the second round, Kenkel rebounded from a double bogey on hole No. 16 and a triple bogey on hole No. 17 to birdie 18. She finished the round at six-over 78.
