GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro’s women’s golf team placed ninth at their first tournament of the year, the Col. Wollenberg Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. The Spartans shot a 292 in the third round, finishing the three-day tournament at 900 (311-297-292).

“Very proud of their fight today,” said head coach Janell Howland. “They wanted to go out and have a great finish and they did that. We got better every day this week and that’s all I can ask for. Excited to be headed home after a long week. We are still thinking and praying for those affected by the storm as we head east.”

Senior Lexi Kershaw finished with the ninth lowest score (218) in the tournament, as the Winston-Salem, N.C., native shot an even 72 on Wednesday. She began the day with a birdie on hole No. 9, one of three birdies on the afternoon.

“Today was another good day,” Kershaw said. “I played solid all week and just stayed patient with it again today. The team had a great finish today and I’m excited to see what we can do this year.”

Off the best single-round performance of her college career so far when she shot a 68 on Tuesday, sophomore Keri Kenkel shot a 75 on Wednesday to end the tournament at 224 (81-68-75), which placed her tied for 24th place.

Sophomore Tara Bettle finished Wednesday’s round at one-over par 73, her lowest round of the tournament (78-78-73).

Junior Louisa Tichy also posted her lowest round of the tournament at 74, improving all three days to finish the event at 235 (83-78-74), while freshman Hailey Joy shot the best round of her debut tournament on Wednesday as well at 73.
