“I could not be prouder of our team,” said UNCG head coach Corey Carlin. “This was a grueling first weekend with challenging competition, and to battle the way we did tonight was all you can ask for as a coach. To play the way we did earning this win on the road, especially showing tremendous grit in battling back in the second set, was huge. We took a big step forward and it’s exciting to see what this team is capable of. This was definitely a great team win.”
The win was the first victory against a power five opponent for fifth-year head coach Corey Carlin at UNCG (0-9 previously). The most previous win against a power five and ACC school was against NC State (3-2) on Sept. 19, 2009 in the UNCG Tournament.
