KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – UNCG men’s golf turned in a team score of nine-over 577 (285-292) for third-place on Saturday in the first two rounds of the Irish Creek Intercollegiate co-hosted by Davidson and Charlotte on the Par 71, 7,099-yard The Club at Irish Creek. The final round will begin on Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., and the Spartans are set to tee off holes No. 1-5. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstatresults.com.

The 15-team and 88-individual field features four teams in the Top-35, six in the top-100 and six individuals in the top-100: Akron, No. 15 Clemson, Dartmouth, Dayton, No. 4 Georgia Tech, Indiana, No. 35 Kansas, No. 64 Middle Tennessee State, No. 29 North Florida and No. 99 West Virginia.

Clemson sits atop the leader board with a score of three-under 565 (277-288), and Georgia Tech (277-297) is in second-place nine strokes behind. North Florida (291-289) is three strokes behind UNCG for fourth place, and Kansas is in fifth place at 14-over 582 (285-297).

Clemson has the top-two individuals after the first two rounds with No. 45 Turk Pettit leading the way at six-under 136 (66-70) and Kyle Cottam (68-70) two strokes behind. Junior Bryce Hendrix (Greenville, N.C./D.H. Conley) is one of three other golfers to be below par and is tied for third place with Jake Brown (74-66) of Indiana at two-under 140 (71-69). Hendrix shot even on the front and back nine in the first round and then tied for the second-best score in the following round with birdies in four of the first five holes on the back-nine.

Sophomore Jonathan Brightwell (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) is tied for 10th place at one-over 143 (72-71) and had eight birdies on the day. Senior Josh Stockwell (Aberdeen, N.C./Southern Pines) and freshman Nick Lyerly (Salisbury, N.C./East Rowan) are tied for 27th-place, with both turning in a five-over 147 (71-76).

Sophomore Grant Powell (Colfax, N.C./Greensboro College) registered a 15-over 157 (77-80) and is tied for 75th-place.
