GREENSBORO, Ga. – The UNCG men’s golf team repeated its first day team score of 1-under par 287 on Monday in the second round of the Linger Longer Invitational co-hosted by Mercer and Kennesaw State at the par-72 Great Waters course at Reynolds Lake Oconee Course and moved up one spot to sixth-place. The final round will begin Tuesday with the Spartans set to tee off at hole No. 1 at 9:20 a.m. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstatresults.com.

The 16-team field has 11 teams ranked in the top-100 in the country, including three in the top-50. Joining the Spartans in the field includes No. 8 Alabama, No. 44 Virginia, No. 45 Penn State, No. 53 Kennesaw State, No. 56 Middle Tennessee State, No. 61 Georgia, No. 75 Michigan, No. 78 Ohio State, No. 88 Charlotte, No. 99 Cincinnati, Akron, Augusta, Chattanooga, Mercer and Troy.

The top four teams from the first round remain the same after the second day. Georgia leads at 18-under 558 (272-286), Alabama (277-282) is one stroke behind, Penn State remains in third at nine-under 567 (278-289) and Ohio State is fourth at six-under 570 (281-289). Virginia (286-287) is three strokes ahead of UNCG while Augusta (292-284) and Chattanooga (283-293) are two strokes behind tied for seventh-place. Cincinnati fell from seventh to ninth-place at two-over 578 (287-291). 

Georgia’s Davis Thompson remains in first-place in the individual leaderboard at 12-under 132 (63-69). No. 23 Lee Hodges of Alabama (67-68) is three strokes behind, and No. 69 Spencer Ralston of Georgia is in third place at seven-under 137 (65-72).

Junior Bryce Hendrix (Greenville, N.C./D.H. Conley) is tied for fourth place with No. 9 Kyle Mueller (68-70) of Michigan and Penn State’s Cole Miller (67-71) at six-under 138 (67-71). Starting on hole one, Hendrix went one-under 35 on the front nine, including an eagle on a par-five on hole two, and even-par 36 on the back nine with two birdies and two bogeys.

Senior Josh Stockwell (Aberdeen, N.C./Southern Pines) tied for the best score in the entire field for the round with a four-under 68 to move from a tie in 60th-place to a tie for 19th at one-under 143. Stockwell had two birdies on the front nine for a one-under 35 and turned it up a notch on the back-nine with a three-under 33. He ended the day with an eagle on the par-five on hole 18. 

Like Hendrix, freshman Nick Lyerly (Salisbury, N.C./East Rowan) registered a one-under 71 and is now tied for 26th-place with an even-par 144. Lyerly birdied the final two holes for a two-under 34 on the back-nine. 

Sophomore Grant Powell (Colfax, N.C./Greensboro College) is tied for 65th-place at six-over 150 (73-77), and sophomore Jonathan Brightwell (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) (74-77) is one stroke behind for a tie at 67th. 

Competing as an individual, sophomore Michael Wicker (Rougemount, N.C./North Durham) turned in a nine-over 81 and is in 85th-place at 15-over 159.
