WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCG competed against the host UNCW Seahawks in the final match of the Battle at the Beach Sunday afternoon. The Spartans dropped the finale 4-1, with Connor Thompson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents) picking up UNCG’s point at No. 1. UNCG falls to 6-5, while UNCW improves to 11-2.

The Seahawks took the first point of the afternoon, winning two of the three doubles matches. UNCW took No. 2 doubles, 6-2 and No. 3 6-1 before leaving the No. 1 match unfinished as UNCW had earned the point.

UNCW’s Agus Savarino defeated Daniel Hammarstedt (Stockholm, Sweden/Ava Gymnasium), 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. Jack Burkill (London, Great Britain/Millfield School) dropped the 6-1, 6-2 matchup at No. 6 before Thompson got UNCG on the board. Thompson defeated Andrs Torres, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. Ollie Palmer (Twyning, Great Britain/St. Peter’s) was the next Spartan to fall, dropping No. 2, 6-4, 6-2.
