GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men’s tennis notched its fourth-straight win Saturday afternoon at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center, defeating Winthrop 5-2. UNCG took the doubles point and four of the six singles matches to earn the victory. UNCG improves to 4-1 on the season while Winthrop falls to 1-3.

Connor Thompson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents) and Ian Melnik (Lawrenceville, Ga./Rivers Academy) notched a clean 6-0 win over Connor Williamson, Diego Quiroz to start the day at No. 1 doubles. Marcus Vidgren (Stockholm, Sweden/Stockholm Idrotts Gymnasium) and Jack Burkill (London, Great Britain/Millfield School) earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 to earn the point.

Vidgren put UNCG up 2-0 with a straight set win over Williamson at No. 2, 6-3, 6-2. Ollie Palmer (Twyning, Great Britain/St. Peter’s) gave UNCG a 3-0 lead after taking down Gabriel Dias, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3. Winthrop cut into the lead with wins at No.1 and No. 4 but UNCG took home the match as Melnik earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5 and Burkill added a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 to take the match.
