Women's Tennis Competes at ITA Regionals in Chapel Hill
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNCG women’s tennis opened up play at the ITA Regionals hosted by the University of North Carolina. This is the third fall competition for the women’s squad who hosted the Spartan Classic Invitational last weekend. Five Spartans competed in singles play, with two pairs playing in the doubles competition.
Corinne Blythe (Leicestershire, Great Britain/Queenswood School) dropped a 7-6 (3), 6-0 matchup to Mary Caroline Meredith of Wake Forest. Nancy Bridges (Shelby, N.C./Shelby) faced off with Coastal Carolina’s Somer Dalla Bona, dropping the match 6-2, 6-4.
Blaine Boaz (Dunwoody, Ga./Saint Pius X) dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Lindsay Song of Davidson, with Sophia Adams (Miami, Fla./TERRA Environmental Institute) falling to Clemson’s Laura Marti, 6-3, 6-4. Brianna Gomez (Miami, Fla./John A. Ferguson) was the final Spartan to compete. The freshman narrowly dropped her matchup with Clemson’s Ally Miller Krasilnikov, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (5), 6-2.
Blythe and Alice Taylor (Cambridge, Great Britain/UMBC) teamed up and defeated with Appalachian State’s Taylor Bygrave and Rebecca Morse, 8-5 before falling to Hadley Berg and Rachel Rohrbacher of South Carolina, 8-1.
Boaz and Bridges made up the other Spartan doubles team as they took on Elon’s Maria Paraja and Souzanne Zenoni. The Spartans defeated the pair of Phoenix, 8-5 before falling to Makenna Jones and Chloe Ouellet Pizer, 8-2.
Taylor will compete tomorrow morning against Charlotte’s Tai Martin.
