GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s and men’s cross country programs took part in the 62nd annual Joe Piane Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame in South Bend Friday afternoon. The Spartans finished 18th overall in the women’s 5,000-meter Gold race while the men’s program finished 19th overall in the 5-mile Gold race. UNCG returns to action October 13 as it runs in the Pirate XC Invitational in Greenville, N.C.

Sophomore Taylor Delaney (Hope Mills, N.C./South View) was the Spartans’ top finisher on the day, placing 42nd overall in the Gold race with a time of 18:14.9. Sophomore Kaitlyn Stone (Winston-Salem, N.C./West Stokes) finished 93rd overall in the field with a personal-best time of 18:50.00, surpassing her previous high of 18:52.77 set last time out at the adidas XC Challenge.

Freshman India Godlock (Polk County, N.C./Polk County) was the Spartans’ third finisher in 101st place overall. Godlock also turned in a personal-best time of 18:56.0, trimming over a minute off from her previous time of 20:02.40 set last time out. Freshman Ariana Garcia (Beulaville, N.C./East Duplin) placed 149th overall with a time of 19:34.0 while classmate Kassidy Dill (Milford, Maine/Orono) rounded out the top five with a time of 19:51.6 in 161st place.

On the men’s side, junior William Sandin (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) led the Spartans in the 5-mile race with a personal-best time of 26:04.20, placing 60th overall. Sandin trimmed 17 seconds off his previous 5-mile top time, set in 2015 at the same event. Freshman Juan Rodriguez posted the Spartans’ second-best time of the day with a 27:47.1, placing 133rd overall.

Sophomore Trelek Jones (Lynchburg, Va./Wake Forest) turned in a time of 28:08.10 in his first career 5-mile run, finishing 143rd overall. Freshmen Jonathan Timothy (Greenville, N.C.) and Weston Clayton rounded out Spartans’ top-five finishes with a times of 28:27.50 and 28:38.40, respectively.
