Women's Golf Closes Out Brickyard Collegiate In 15th Place
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's golf team closed out the Brickyard Collegiate Tuesday in 15th place overall at the two-day event hosted by Mercer at The Brickyard Golf Club. The event is the Spartans' final tune-up prior to the Southern Conference Championships April 23-25 at the Country Club of Lexington in Lexington, S.C.
“The last few weeks we have been battling injuries and illness as a team,” head coach Janell Howland said. “This team has done nothing but fight through the adversity. We are looking forward to having a little time to rest and hopefully get healthy in time for the conference tournament.”
The Spartans finished the tournament with a 98-over par 962, posting rounds of 312-325-325. UNCG played the final two rounds without junior Lexi Kershaw (Winston-Salem, N.C./Catawba), who was forced to withdraw due to illness after posting a 4-over par 76 in round one.
“As a coach, it is never an easy decision to pull a player from a tournament,” Howland said. “They are competitors and want to play, but the health of these student-athletes is most important thing to me. I am hopeful that we will be rested and healthy in time for SoCon Championships.”
