JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – On Sunday, UNCG track & field concluded the Southern Conference Championships at the Mountain States Health Alliance Center. The Spartan men finished seventh with a total of four points, while the UNCG women snagged seven points for eighth.
Kaitlyn Stone (Winston-Salem, N.C./West Stokes) had the highest finish of the day for UNCG, coming in fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:49.82. On the men’s side of the race, Luke Sumerford (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) took 12th in 15:17.16, while Brandon King (Burnsville, N.C./Mitchell) nabbed 17th with a time of 15:32.72.
Taylor Delaney (Hope Mills, N.C./South View) had two top-eight finishes on the day, taking seventh in the mile (5:05.51) and eighth in the 800 meters (2:19.83). In the men’s mile run, Dakarai Shipp (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) placed 10th after crossing the finish line in 4:25.29.
In the only relay race of the day for the Blue and Gold, UNCG’s team of Jonathan Hodge (Kannapolis, N.C./A.L. Brown), Jeffrey Beane (Asheboro, N.C./Asheboro), William Sandin (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) and Keeton Glenn (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft) took fifth in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:34.47.
