Women’s Track & Field Competes Well at Virginia Tech Challenge

BLACKSBURG, Va. – In the final tune up before the Southern Conference Indoor Championships, UNCG women’s track & field performed well Friday at the Virginia Tech Challenge at Rector Field House.

The Blue and Gold showed out in the 800 meters, taking three of the top 10 places. Taylor Delaney (Hope Mills, N.C./South View) finished runner-up, timing in at 2:15.45. Kaitlyn Stone (Winston-Salem, N.C./West Stokes) and Kelsey Barrett (Huntsville, Ala./Buckhorn) staked claim to eighth and ninth place, finishing in 2:28.18 and 2:28.36, respectively.

In the 60 meter prelims, Alexis Rice placed 14th with a time of 8.23, while Antonia Smith wasn’t far behind in 16th-place with a time of 8.31.

Nautica Friday came in at 22nd in the 200 meters, crossing the finish line in 29.49. Friday was followed immediately by Kimberly Shaver, who timed in at 30.93 for 23rd.

UNCG now turns its attention to the SoCon Indoor Track & Field Championships, slated for Feb. 25 and 26 in Johnson City, Tennessee.
