STATESBORO, Ga. – UNCG softball dropped its second game of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Spartans fell to the No. 15 Tennessee Lady Volunteers, 7-1.  The game was UNCG’s third of the Eagle Round Robin tournament. UNCG is now 1-2 on the season. Tennessee improves to 3-0.

Rachael McClaskey (Pine Hill, N.J./Overbrook) led the Spartan offense, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.  Four players scattered four hits throughout the afternoon.

Alicia Bazonski (Sheffield, Mass./Mount Everett) started in the circle. Bazonski went 4.2 innings, allowing seven runs and striking out a batter.  Kylie Bouplon (Wilson, N.C./Forsyth County Day) made her third relief appearance, throwing the final 1.1 innings, retiring four of her six batters faced.

The Blue and Gold gave Tennessee its first deficit of the young season, scoring a single run in the top of the first inning.  Jasmine Palmer (Biltmore Lake, N.C./Florida State) worked a 10-pitch at bat to put a runner on.  After advancing to third on two passed balls, McClaskey singled up the middle to score Palmer and give UNCG the 1-0 lead.

UNCG’s was short lived, as the Tennessee offense opened the bottom of the first frame with three-straight hits.  Aubrey Leach singled to start, with Brooke Vines doubling to put two in scoring position.  Megan Geer followed with a single to right scoring both runs, but was thrown out attempting to take second base.

The Lady Vols extened their lead in the bottom of the third inning.  Vines was hit by a pitch to reach base.  She stole second and advanced to third on an error by the UNCG catcher.  Geer laced a single to right field to bring in the run and push the lead to 3-1.

Tennessee added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning on an Abby Lockman solo home run. The Lady Vols added three runs on two hits and benefitted from two walks, and two hit batters in the fifth to take a 7-1 lead.

UNCG is back in action tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. as it will wrap up play in the Eagle Round Robin Tournament against the same Tennessee Lady Volunteer squad.
