Women's Golf Finishes 10th At Bill Berg Invitational
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team notched their lowest round of the week Tuesday afternoon as the Spartans moved up to a 10th place finish at the Bill Berg Invitational at The Ridges Country Club in Hayesville, N.C., hosted by Western Carolina.
The Spartans posted a round of 309 Tuesday to finish 10th overall with an 81-over par 945 team score (317-319-309). UNCG trimmed 10 strokes off its round two score in the final round. Eastern Kentucky won the overall event with a 25-over par 889 score (300-293-296) to win by 20 strokes over Western Carolina. Elsa Moberly of EKU won the individual event with a 1-over par 217 (75-72-70).
Sophomore Natalia Asensio (Madrid, Spain/Cardenal Spinola) led the Spartans with a 24th place finish. Asensio posted a 16-over par 232 score as she was consistent all week with rounds of 77-78-77. She recorded two birdies in the final round and eight par scores.
Junior Lexi Kershaw (Winston-Salem, N.C./Catawba) finished in a tie for 39th place overall with a 21-over par 237. Kershaw tallied rounds of 5-over par 77 in rounds one and three with an 11-over par 83 in round two. Freshman Louisa Tichy (Germering, Germany/Max-Born Gymnasium) moved up to 43rd place overall with a 23-over par 239 score. Tichy improved each round of the week, opening with an 83 and 79 in the first two rounds before carding a 5-over par 77 in Tuesday’s round.
Freshman Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, N.C./Northern Guilford) placed 47th overall with a 25-over par 241 score. Dobbins opened with am 83 in round one before notching back-to-back rounds of 7-over par 79 to close out the week. She recorded 11 pars scores to lead the Spartans in round three.
Senior Kristin Powers (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) rounded out the lineup in 53rd place overall with a 31-over par 247 with rounds of 80-89-78. Senior Emily Kurey (Alpharetta, Ga./Louisville) played as an individual and finished 59th overall with a 35-over par 251 (92-80-79).
Including the Spartans, the 12-team field includes a pair of fellow Southern Conference members, Western Carolina and Wofford. Rounding out the competition are Appalachian State, Eastern Kentucky, Gardner-Webb, James Madison, Longwood, Marshall, Presbyterian, Radford, and UNC Asheville.
