GREENSBORO, N.C. – After 93 minutes of scoreless soccer, Mercer’s Logan Culver netting a golden goal for the Bears to hand the UNCG women’s soccer team its third loss of the Southern Conference season. The Spartans (6-9-2) 1-0 loss to Mercer becomes the first in program history to the Bears and snaps a two-match win streak.
Chloe Buehler (Perrysburg, Ohio/Penn State) made six saves in goal for the Spartans as Mercer outshot UNCG 20-8 in 94 minutes of action. Regan Lehman (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy) accounted for three of the Spartans shots while Melanie Spensiero (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) added two of her own.
UNCG leads the all-time series 4-1-1 against the Bears and is now 1-1-1 on the road in the matchup.
Sunday’s overtime loss marks the first for UNCG since a heartbreaking 3-2 loss against Loyola Chicago in the 2015 season opener.
The Spartans wrap up the four-match road stretch 2-2 and return home for the final two contests of the regular season Friday, October 21, vs. Samford and Sunday, October 23, vs. Chattanooga.
