In the first set, the Bulldogs were able to gain a three-point advantage at 16-13 following a block assist from T.J. Russell and Gabbi Greenwald.  The Spartans kept the match close the rest of the way before a kill from Kate Neisler and an attack error by Penner gave the Bulldogs the first set.

After being tied 15 in the second set, UNCG used a 5-0 run to take a lead.  The Spartans were aided by a kill from Muench, two Samford attack errors, and a block assist from Jones and Penner to take the lead.  The Spartans extended their lead to as many as six points following a block assist from Jones and Mourier.  Samford came as close as three points following back-to-back kills from Erin Bognar.  Mourier finished off the set with her eighth kill of the match to give UNCG its first win.

The third set was back-and-forth with no team leading by more than four points. UNCG had an 11-7 lead before Samford was able to tie it up at 21 all.  The Bulldogs then grabbed a 23-21 lead before UNCG was able to tie it up at 23, 24, and 25.  Three-straight Spartan kills from Brezwyn and Lauren Robeck (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) gave UNCG the victory and the lead.

The Navy and Gold jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the third set and never surrendered the lead. Samford came back within two points at 10-8 before UNCG extended its lead back out to 15-9. The Spartans were aided by kills from Jones and a service ace from Robeck. Samford cut the lead to within two at 24-22 before a kill from Romaniszyn gave the Spartans the set and the match.
