GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG sophomore men's golfer Bryce Hendrix (Greenville, N.C./D.H. Conley) posted the best finish of his young career to lead the Spartans at the Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate hosted by NC State at the Lonnie Poole Golf Club.
Hendrix finished in a tie for 10th place overall, besting his previous top finish of 14th place at the Southern Conference Championship last season. He finished under par for the first time in his collegiate career, posting a 1-under par 212 score. He opened the event with a 1-over par 72 and a 2-under par 69 Monday. He closed out the showing with an even-par 71 Tuesday as he recorded three birdies, three bogeys and 12 par scores. He finished fourth overall in par-4 scoring at 3.96 strokes per hole.
The Spartans as a team finished ninth overall with a 16-over par 868 score. UNCG posted rounds of 288-284-296 in the two-day, three-round event. East Carolina won the event with a 15-under par 837 (271-279-287) score, while Kennesaw State was second overall at 12-under par 840 (278-277-285). Timothy Conover of ECU ran away with the individual title with a 12-under par 201 score as he recorded three straight rounds of 67.
Junior Josh Stockwell (Aberdeen, N.C./Southern Pines) finished in a tie for 38th place overall with a 6-over par 219 score. Stockwell was second in the field with 39 par scores out of his 54 holes of golf. He opened with a 2-over par 73 in round one before carding an even-par 71 in round two. He finished up with a 4-over par 75 in round three. On the week, he was third in the field in par-4 scoring at 3.93 strokes per hole.
Junior Joseph Cansler (Clemmons/Surry CC) and freshman Jonathan Brightwell (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) carded scores of 7-over par 220 to finish tied for 41st overall. Cansler posted rounds of 72-73-75 on the week while Brightwell added rounds of 71-74-75 as he was seventh overall with 38 par scores in 54 holes.
Senior Jake McGlone (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin) rounded out the lineup in a tie for 54th place in the field. McGlone ended with a 9-over par 222 score after notching rounds of 75-71-76. Sophomore Mark Johnston (Lewisville, N.C./West Forsyth) played as an individual and placed 79th overall with a 19-over par 232 (80-74-78).
The Spartans return to action next week Oct. 8-9 as they travel to the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, hosted by North Carolina at the Finley Golf Course.
