Sophomore (2017-18): Competed at the Elon Fall Invitational, earning two wins…Defeated Elon’s Savadore Mijares in three sets, and USC Upstate’s Felix Ewers… Notched a 6-2, 6-1 win over Davidson’s Yah Parikh at the ITA Regional… Partnered with Nico Grewe and defeated Elon’s Neal Port and Salvador Mijares at the Elon Men’s Invitational.
Second Team All-SoCon in doubles with partner Logan Walker … Earned a 9-11 singles record competing at No. 2 and No. 3 … Earned a combined 9-8 in doubles competitions … Earned five SoCon victories when partnered with Walker … Won four-straight singles matches from Jan. 28-Feb. 17 at No. 2 … Won four of six matches to close the year … Earned SoCon singles victories over Samford’s Jake Faundez (Mar. 12), The Citadel’s Noah Nawabi (Apr. 8) and Chattanooga’s Pablo Liebelli (Apr. 14) … Won his first four doubles matches of the season with partner Jack Burkill … Earned five SoCon victories in doubles, defeating pairs from Samford (Mar. 12), Furman (Mar. 30), Mercer (Apr. 3), The Citadel (Apr. 8) and Wofford (Apr. 10).
Freshman (2016-17): Second Team All-Southern Conference – Doubles… Competed in 21 singles matches as well as 23 doubles matches… Went 11-10, all at No. 2 singles play… Went 4-3 in SoCon action in singles… Earned a combined 15-7 record in doubles action… Went 5-2 with Connor Thompson at No.1 doubles, defeating Chattanooga's Nic Wilson and Niklas Gerdes… Competed in the last 15 matches while partnered with Jack Burkill… Went a perfect 6-0 at No. 2 doubles… Defeated all seven SoCon opponents, besting ETSU's David Biosca and Juan Lugo (Mar. 19), Mercer's Fernando Guardia and Nicolas Guillon (Mar. 26), The Citadel's W. Jacobus von Zyl and Noah Nawabi (Mar. 28), Furman's Cameron Green and Alex Steryous (Apr. 7), Samford's Curran Verma and Max Rebol (Apr. 9), and Wofford's Patrick Longest and Andrew Graham (Apr. 15)… Took one of two doubles flights in the SoCon Tournament, besting Graham and Longest (Apr. 21) before falling to Biosca and Miguel Este of ETSU (Apr. 22)… Went 4-3 in the SoCon at No. 2 singles… Earned victories over Chattanooga's Gerdes (Mar. 5), No. 120 Diego Nunez of ETSU (Mar. 19), The Citadel's Matthew Henson (Mar. 28), and Wofford's Lucas Cerbelli (Apr. 15), all in straight sets… Went 1-1 in the SoCon Tournament, defeating Cerbelli (Apr. 21) in three sets in the first match of the tournament.
Prep: Marcus Vidgren joins UNCG Men's Tennis after competing in Sweden… Won the Swedish doubles championship, while reaching the finals another time was a semifinalist five times… Reached the singles semifinals championship… Ranked in the top 3 of Swedish competitors for the past two years, including a number two national ranking… Competed with Team Sweden in the IC European junior challenge.
Personal: Marcus is the son of Jari and Virve Vidgren and is originally from Stockholm, Sweden… Has two siblings, Mathias and Mathilda... Majoring in International Business.
