TUCSON, Ariz. –  The 2016 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team has been selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.  Andrew Moritz (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) and Cesar Trejo (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) have earned Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-Americans.  Moritz is one of 28 outfielders on the list, while Trejo is one of eight honorees at the shortstop position.

Moritz earned Southern Conference All-Freshman honors after hitting for a SoCon-best .400 average having started in 41 games.   He ended the season tied for 11^th in the NCAA with seven triples despite having played in a minimum eight less games that all others.  The seven triples are tied for the second-most in a season at UNCG.  Moritz scored 43 runs and recorded 33 RBI while maintaining a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in center field.  During the season, Moritz earned a school record 23-game hit streak and reached base in 37 games prior an injury forcing him to miss the final 18 games.   Moritz reached base in 40 of 41 games played and had at least one hit in 36 of 41 games played.

Trejo was named to the SoCon All-Freshman squad as well as the SoCon All-Tournament Team following a stellar performance in the SoCon Baseball Championship Tournament in Greenville, S.C.  He started 47 games and appeared in 51 total.  The freshman hit for a .363 average with seven doubles, three triples and nine home runs.  Trejo drove in 30 runs and scored 43 and hit for a .587 slugging percentage.  He had multiple hits in 20 games and ended the year on a ten game hitting streak. 

Moritz and Trejo were key cogs in the UNCG offensive machine that set school records in batting average, runs, hits, RBI, doubles, triples and on-base percentage. These are the first Freshmen All-American Honors for UNCG since 2003 when Chris Mason earned the award.
