GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's golf team sits in 13th place overall after 36-holes of the Irish Creek Collegiate Saturday played at The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis. The third and final round will be played Sunday with a shotgun start with UNCG set to begin on holes No. 13-15. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstatresults.com.
Joining the 75th-ranked Spartans in the field includes No. 6 Florida State, No. 14 Wake Forest, No. 24 North Carolina, No. 34 North Florida, No. 48 East Carolina, No. 50 SMU, No. 57 Kennesaw State, No. 76 VCU, No. 77 Charlotte, No. 79 UNCW, Davidson, Appalachian State, Dartmouth and Mercer.
The Spartans sit in 13th place overall with a 31-over par 599 score. UNCG opened with a 303 score on the par-71 course before improving to a 296 score in round two. Kennesaw State holds the overall lead with a 1-under par 567 after posting rounds of 284-283. Ryan Cole of James Madison holds the individual lead with a 5-under par 137 (67-70).
Junior Jake McGlone (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin) leads the Spartans with a 5-over par 147. McGlone is tied for 25th place overall as he opened with a 5-over par 76 in round one before carding the Spartans' lowest round of the day with an even-par 71 in round two. He tallied two birdies, two bogeys and 14 par scores in his even round of golf in round two.
Senior Luke Haithcock (Burlington, N.C./Williams) and sophomore Josh Stockwell (Aberdeen, N.C./Southern Pines) are tied for 52nd overall with a 9-over par 151. Haithcock posted a 7-over par 78 in round one before rebounding with a 2-over par 73 in round two as he opened with two birdies on the front nine. Stockwell posted scored of 75-76 in the first two rounds of consistent golf.
Freshman Bryce Hendrix (Greenville, N.C./D.H. Conley) is tied for 64th overall at 11-over par 153. Hendrix opened the day with a 3-over par 74 as he carded two birdies in his first three holes before posting a 79 in round two. Senior Taylor Coalson (Dobson, N.C./North Surry) rounded out the lineup with a 13-over par 155 (79-76) to sit in a tie for 69th overall. Junior Riley Davis (Kinston, N.C./UNC Pembroke) is in 76th place as an individual with a 14-over par 156 (75-81).
