GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's golf team sits ninth overall after 36 holes of goal at the Linger Longer Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State at the Great Waters course at Reynolds Lake. The Spartans will look to improve on their team standing in the prestigious field with the third and final round Tuesday. UNCG is set for tee times from 9:30-10:10 a.m. from hole No. 10 with live scoring available via www.golfstatresults.com.
The Spartans sit in ninth with a 10-over par 586 score after posting scores of 287 in round one and a 299 Monday. No. 12 Alabama leads the field with a 9-under par 567 (282-285) while No. 21 Virginia is second at 6-under par 570 (279-291). Lee McCoy of Georgia (70-67) and Jimmy Stanger of Virginia (69-68) are tied for the individual lead at 7-under par 137.
Freshman Bryce Hendrix (Greenville, N.C./D.H. Conley) continues to lead the Spartans in a tie for 16th place overall at even-par 144. Hendrix opened the event with a career-low 6-under par 66 and followed that up with a 6-over par 78 in round two.
Sophomore Josh Stockwell (Aberdeen, N.C./Southern Pines) had the Spartans' best round of the day Monday, posting an even-par 72 in round two. Stockwell is tied for 24th overall with a 2-over par 146 (74-72). He posted three birdies, three bogeys and 12 par scores in round two.
Junior Jake McGlone (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin) is tied for 27th overall with a 3-over par 147. McGlone opened the event with an even-par 72 before posting a 3-over par 75 in round two. Senior Luke Haithcock (Burlington, N.C./Williams) continued his consistent play with back-to-back rounds of 3-over par 75 to sit in 44th place at 6-over par 150. Haithcock posted 14 par scores on the solid round Tuesday. Senior Taylor Coalson (Dobson, N.C./North Surry) rounds out the Spartans' lineup in a tie for 59th place at 10-over par 154 (77-77).
The 13-team field features 11 top 100 teams and four teams ranked in the top 25. Joining the 66th-ranked Spartans include No. 2 Georgia, No. 12 Alabama, No. 21 Virginia, No. 25 Purdue, No. 26 Baylor, No. 39 Augusta, No. 55 Louisville, No. 61 Kennesaw State, No. 78 Missouri, No. 82 Charlotte, South Alabama and Mercer.
