Men's Tennis Signs Three Standouts To National Letters of Intent

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men's tennis head coach Jeff Trivette announced the signings of Jack Burkill (London, England), Daniel Hammarstedt (Stockholm, Sweden) and Marcus Vidgren (Stockholm, Sweden) to national letters of intent. All three will join the Spartans as true freshmen for the 2016-17 season.

“I wanted to make a positive statement with our initial recruiting class,” Trivette said. “I am very excited about the three young men that we have signed. Jack, Daniel and Marcus are all very good tennis players, but more than that, they are quality kids that we can build a top tennis program around. When you add them to the talent that we already have, our future is very bright!”

Burkill is ranked in the top 20 in the United Kingdom and has an ITF ranking of No. 564. He won three ITF doubles titles in 2015 and was a runner-up in doubles in the summer of 2015. He has represented his county of Sussex on the men's county team since the age of 15, winning the Sussex County Cup for U16 singles, U18 singles and U 18 doubles.

Burkill played for Millfield School and won the Independent Schools Tennis Association National Finals in 2015. He was a Millfield School team player and helped it to a runner-up finish at the Team Tennis Schools Nationals in 2015. He previously represented Bede's School from 2011-2014, reaching the finals those four years as well. He is also part of the Maresfield Tennis Club.

Hammarstedt is a native of Stockholm, Sweden. He was a regional finalist in 2014 and attended Ava Gymnasium. He was a member of the Nasbyparks TK from 2011-16. He is a two-time runner-up for the Swedish National Club Championship for both boys U15 and boys U18. He is ranked in the top 20 in Sweden currently.

Vidgren is also a native of Stockholm, Sweden. He played for the Trollbacken Tennis Club. He won the Swedish Championship in doubles and also finished as the runner-up the previous year. He reached the semifinals in singles in the Swedish Championship and has been ranked in the top three in Sweden for the past two years. He also played No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles for Team Sweden in the IC European Junior Challenge against Spain.
