GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s and women’s track program ran at the Joe Hilton Invitational Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina, setting 10 outdoor personal-bests in the process among the two programs.

Men’s Track
Freshman Patrick O’Grady (Roswell, Ga./Blessed Trinity) posted the Spartans’ top finish on the men’s side, placing 11th overall in the 3,000-meter race with a personal-best time of 9:10.06.

Classmate Jonathan Hodge (Kannapolis, N.C./A.L. Hodge) also placed 11th in his race, the 800-meter distance, with a personal-best time of 1:58.66. Sophomore John Elwood (Greensboro, N.C./Northern Guilford) finished with a time of 2:00.61 in the 800-meter race, finishing 13th overall.

The Spartans set two additional personal-best times in the mile distance Saturday. Junior Dylan Belles (Denver, N.C./East Lincoln) placed 20th in the mile with a time of 4:15.84 while senior Tyron Alston (Mebane, N.C./Eastern Alamance) was 24th in a time of 4:17.40.

Women’s Track
Seniors Shaina Sumney (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Chelsea Sumney (Washington, Pa./Trinity) placed first and second respectively in the 3,000-meter steeplechase race, their first ever appearance in the event. Shaina finished first with a time of 10:36.38 while Chelsea was second with a time of 10:42.99.

Sophomore Katlyn Ayers (Strasburg, Va./Strasburg) was the Spartans’ next best finisher on the afternoon, placing ninth in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 10:32.25.

The Spartans turned in three more personal-bests in the mile distance on the women’s side. Sophomore Katherine Link (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) was 18th in a time of 5:00.81, senior Kelly Montague (Garner, N.C./West Johnston) was 23rd in a time of 5:12.95 and sophomore Eira Jensen (Holmveien, Norway/Sortland VGS) was 25th in a time of 5:14.78.

The Spartans return to the track April 26 in Spartanburg, S.C., for the 2014 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
